Answers to Common Natick lacrosse questions

What grade can participate in Natick Youth Lacrosse?

Travel teams for both boys and girls start in the 1st grade through the 8th grade. Teams are grouped in 2 grade levels - 1st & 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th, and 7th & 8th grades. There is a mini clinic in the fall and spring for kindergartners - Little Laxers.

When is the season?

Lacrosse is typically a spring sport - practices start indoors in March and outdoor practices start in late March or April as soon as the town opens the fields for us. However, we offer free fall clinics starting in September and run a winter season preparation clinic in January and February.

All of these clinics are operated by Natick Youth Lacrosse coaches, with the help of Natick High School players and coaches.

What is the time commitment?

There are around 8 games on Sundays in April, May and early June. Plus two practices a week. However, the players that excel are the ones that practice at home - so practicing outside of official practices is always recommended.

What equipment is needed?

The boys game and the girls game are quite different. The boys game is more of a contact game. Boys wear helmets, chest and shoulder pads, elbow pads, padded gloves and a mouthguard. And of course a lacrosse stick.

The girls game is a game of speed and agility. Girls wear wire goggles, and a mouthguard. Special helmets for the girls game are allowed, but rarely used. And a lacrosse stick VERY different from the boys stick - the girls have a much shallower pocket.

For more detailed information about the required equipment for boys, please check out our Boys Equipment Guide.

For more detailed information about the required equipment for girls, please check out our Girls Equipment Guide.
