Girls Equipment Guide

Girls Equipment Guide

The minimum equipment required for girls is:

  • A lacrosse stick
  • A mouthguard
  • Eye protection

Please note: the mouthguard cannot be white - the refs need to be able to see that the player is wearing a guard from a distance.

Founders Girls Lacrosse League provides guidance on required equipment for participation in the FGLL here. That page also provides links to additional resources, including the USA Lacrosse Equipment Guide

Eye Protection: Most players wear wire goggles. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, fitting different faces and some are even large enough to wear glasses underneath. If you get plastic goggles, they have to be approved for lacrosse.

Helmets: USA Lacrosse has approved some helmets for lacrosse. They are not as common on the field. You can get them online and in a few specialty shops.

Goalie Equipment: NYL provides goalie equipment to each team so that players can p;lay in goal without needing their own equipment.

First and second graders: USA Lacrosse, in coordination with stick makers designed a special stick for pre-k/K and 8U (first and second graders). This stick has a deeper preformed plastic pocket, and is wider to facilitate catching. The stick is called the "Warp Jr" and is manufactured by various brands. It's not necessary, but it helps with the younger players.

Uniforms

Players purchase their own uniforms, and can wear them as long as they still fit. We will notify all registered players when the online Atlantic Sportswear store is open (January/February)

Other equipment

There are a million ways that lacrosse manufacturers will try to part you from your money. Gloves are useful in cold or wet weather, but you can get away with those knit gloves with the little rubber nubbies on them, for the one or two times girls will wear them in a season.

Jewelry

Founders lacrosse does not allow jewelry on the field. That includes earrings (including pierced), bracelets or necklaces. Exceptions are made for medical alert jewelry, but it should be taped down.

Coach's tip - try not to get your daughter's ears pierced during the season. If you do, there are silicone studs that you can purchase and put them in.
